New report highlights research impact at Victoria University

Wellington UniVentures has just released its Impact Report, highlighting commercialisation successes from across Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington throughout 2024. 

 

Wellington UniVentures’ CEO Pierre Malou says the report celebrates the achievements of researchers who have brought their innovations to the world with the support of his team at Wellington UniVentures. 

 

“Our purpose is to work with Te Herenga Waka researchers and industry partners to bring research to life, where it can have an impact on society. We translate innovative research into new companies, licenses, and evidence for government and industry to make important decisions.

 

“It’s been fantastic to reflect on 2024 and appreciate the hard work that has led to real impact for New Zealand,” Pierre adds. 

 

Acknowledging the science sector is facing a significant amount of change, Pierre is optimistic that past successes captured in this report have set-up Wellington UniVentures for future growth in a dynamic environment. 

 

“Both the University and Wellington UniVentures are extremely dedicated and passionate about using research to change the world, and this will be our driving force as we navigate future challenges and opportunities.” 

 

Mark Loveard, the chair of Wellington UniVentures’s board, thanks the University research community and Wellington UniVentures’ team for their unwavering commitment to impactful research despite the challenges of the past couple of years. 

 

“Despite the subdued market conditions, the team worked with university staff to win $5.1m of external research funding, file 71 patents and oversee its investment in spin-out companies which are worth a total of $230m. Together, these make a major contribution to Victoria University of Wellington’s research reputation.”
