People & Business Operations Manager

Kaiwhakahaere Pūmanawa me te Pakihi

Lisa joined Wellington UniVentures in November 2022 as People and Culture Manager and has since become a key part of the Wellington UniVentures' leadership team as the People, Business & Operations Manager. Lisa is responsible for ensuring excellence in delivery of day-to-day operations across the people and culture, health and safety, financial management, systems and communications functions. Lisa enjoys delivering proactive solutions for a broad scope of HR and business-related activities, ensuring that our people have the support, processes, and tools in place to effectively manage their projects and enjoy their time whilst at work.

Lisa brings to the role a breadth of experience, spanning multiple roles and sectors in the UK and Wellington, NZ. Lisa started her working life as a Junior interior Designer in the construction industry in England and within a few years rapidly progressed to project managing large hospitality and leisure fit-out projects for large international companies. Her last role in the UK was co-directorship of a small interior architect practice in the picturesque town of Belper, Derbyshire, leading the design and development of casino and bingo outlets.

A shift across the world to Aotearoa coincided with her introduction to Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, working for 4 years as a Project Manager in the Property Team, on the Hub and library development projects. After a shift in career direction to operational management and human resources, Lisa spent 5 years leading a centralised services support team in Te Pātaka Kōrero (University Library). An experience that provided her with valuable insights into human resource management from a manager's perspective, equipping her with a practical lens that would enhance her effectiveness in future human resources roles, both within the university and in other organisations.

Lisa spent 14 years at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington before leaving in 2021, and the strong relationships and friendships she built across the University community continue to support her and serve her well in this role. Lisa believes that Te Herenga Waka’s success is built on the foundation of passion, commitment, and enthusiasm delivered by students and staff.

He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.
